Why is sleep so important and what are the actual benefits we receive from it?

Besides feeling great sleep has numerous positive roles in ones overall health.

Stages

1 = Transition of Wakefulness into Sleep

2= Depressed Bodily Functions -> 40% of Sleep

3/4 = Delta Sleep -> Deepest Sleep = Complete Rest -> 40%

REM = Active Sleep = Dreams/Growth/Memory Building -> 20% 

Benefits

Hormone Production = Especially Gorthw Hormone

Cardiovascular Health = Decreases Blood Pressure/Cholesterol

Mental Function = Improves Mood/Alertness/Memory/Concentration

Mood = Decreases Stress/Increases Motivation

Cancer = Increases Melatonin -> Decrease Cancer Growth

Weight Loss = Increases Metabolism

Muscle Growth/Repair = Improves Nutrient Delivery

 Immune System = Improves Ability to Fight Infections

Sleep is the final piece of the puzzle when it comes to forming a superb diet and exercise regimen. I am a firm believer in one's mind influencing how their body feels. So to have optimal exercise capacity we must first be rested physically and mentally to do so go get your zzzzzz's!
